The What
Street Wise is a Christ-centered nonprofit in Lawrenceville, GA that serves low-income families who have an emergency need for food, clothing and hygiene items. Street Wise serves more than 600 families a month and distributes over one million pounds of food a year to families in need. Street Wise also offers Training Classes which provide courses that educate and train clients for job interviews, resume writing, job skills, basic financial education, and other life skills.
The Who
StreetWise Georgia was founded in 1988 when Terry and Pat Powell stepped out in faith, simultaneously left their corporate positions, and devoted their lives to spreading the word of God and serving families living in low-income poverty level areas. Today, StreetWise Georgia has its primary operating center in Gwinnett County, at the larger StreetWise facility located at 1770 Cedars Road Lawrenceville, Georgia 30045.
Ways to Get Involved
StreetWise Georgia needs an army of volunteers to complete our Daily Intake process. There are also many opportunities available each day as families come in at their scheduled times, including: greeter, clothing room/personal shoppers, counselor, food room, warehouse stocking, phone room, grocery pick-up drivers, and special event volunteers.
Client Advisors/Counselors
Client Advisors listen to Client needs and concerns, offer encouragement and guidance, pray with families and follow up after the appointment. Orientation and training provided.
Greeters
First impressions are important to every relationship. If you have the gift of smiling and can give our Guests a warm welcome, then this is the position for you!
Clothing Room Volunteers
Acting as a personal shopper, this volunteer position is for those that love helping others find just what they need!
Food Pantry Volunteers
Assisting with the Food Pantry is an absolute joy; packing food for the families and even walking them out to their cars at the end of their appointment.
Drivers
On a daily basis, StreetWise Georgia is blessed with opportunities to pick up food products from local grocery stores. Great drivers are needed, ready at the wheel. Our 26′ refrigerated truck and van are on the road 5 days a week picking up food that is distributed to clients. The truck is on the road in the morning and arrives back at the StreetWise warehouse early afternoon. (No CDL required for 26′ truck).
Warehouse Volunteers
From sorting through produce, meat, and bread to stocking inventory, and helping to unload the truck, the Warehouse has many positions available for those with a passion for behind-the-scenes service!
Phone Room Volunteers
Take charge in the center of operations as you schedule appointments, answer client phone calls, make appointments, and provide vital administrative support!
Event Volunteers
Special Events and monthly Mobile Food Pantry provide Guests with fun, food, fellowship and faith. Perfect for large groups, families, couples and individuals seeking to serve their community!
