Parenting: It's Not What You Think!

Parenting can be frustrating and ineffective if we don’t fully grasp God’s calling on our lives as parents and our need for His grace to lead our children. Based on a video series by Paul David Tripp, this class will present a biblical perspective that focuses on heart transformation, grace, and mercy, starting with our own recognition of our need for God’s grace as parents.

Orphanology: Awakening to Gospel-Centered Orphan Care

Orphan Care is more than just adoption. At the heart of orphan care is grace, flowing from Christ’s redemptive work on the cross, reconciling us with God, and extending through us to the care of orphans and others. In a world filled with great and urgent needs, how can we as the people of God step into faithfulness in caring for the least of these?

Can I Ask That?

We all have questions we are hesitant to ask. Questions, that if unaddressed, can lead to confusion and doubt. In this class, we will create space to dialogue around four big questions that teens struggle with - digging into scripture for God’s answers to some of life’s biggest questions. Join us!

I converted to Christianity at the age of 24 and soon thereafter felt the call to ministry.  For the next 20 years I was involved in typical church staff work–youth ministry, seminary, and pastorate.  Through my senior pastoring I found that my greatest strength was in counseling.  So, I returned to school, got my doctorate in counseling, and shifted to a ministry of Christian counseling.  For the last thirty odd years I have been providing counseling to individuals, married couples, and families.  As much as possible this work has been Christian in nature.

Howdy! We’re Jerod & Hannah Beck. We’ve been members here at Emmaus for almost 6 years. Jerod serves on staff here as the Pastor of Administration, and Hannah is a nurse at Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital. We have two precious children, Emmalynn and Elliott. We are blessed and excited to be able to teach this class! The principles you’ll learn in this class have been our practice since we got married (we’re now on Baby Steps 4, 5, & 6!). We believe in this program wholeheartedly, and trust it can bring you the same financial peace we’ve had for many years now.

We have been married 35 years and have two adult sons. Bill is an elder at Emmaus and we’ve been members of Emmaus since its beginning. We enjoy the outdoors, meeting with people, and our two Boston terriers.

Brad (35) and Karen (32) have been married for over 11 years. They have 3 children including Brody (6), Bryce (5) and Taysum (22 months). They adopted Taysum domestically through a private agency and are currently approved with DFCS to foster and adopt again. The Hillmans have been covenant members of Emmaus for over 6 years and serve in various roles at Emmaus. They are passionate about how the gospel compels us to take care of the orphan and would love to have you in their class.
