Discipleship in a Digital Age

Practical Steps for Following Jesus in the Age of the Smartphone

Led by Pastor Jerod Beck

Today, we live in perhaps the most distracted and distractible time in history. Our habitual misuse of screen-based technology has led to wide-reaching negative effects in almost every area of our lives. But it simply does not have to be this way. This class will take a deep dive into what the Bible has to say about technology and will offer practical steps toward following Jesus faithfully in our digital age.

About the Teachers

My name is Jerod Beck, and I serve here at Emmaus as our Pastor of Administration. I’ve been married to my wife Hannah for 8 years, and we have three children: Emmalynn, who is 5, Elliott, who is 3, and Ezekiel, who is with the Lord now. We are also expecting baby number 4 in April of 2025! As it relates to this class, I’ll also share that I love technology! I believe technology is a great gift from the Lord and can have positive effects on our world when used rightly. But, particularly over the past 10 years or so, I’ve observed the misuse of technology negatively affecting the world around us, including the church. I’m excited for this class in which we’ll seek to address this issue head-on by opening our Bibles together and seeking the Lord’s wisdom on how to view and use technology, all with the aim of faithfully following Jesus in this digital age.
